A "picayune" was a Spanish coin, and also the name of the nearby New Orleans newspaper, the "Times-Picayune". Often described as "a precious coin in the purse of the South", Picayune is the largest city in Pearl River County, Mississippi. The U.S. Census estimate for 2006 placed the County as one of the 10 fastest-growing counties in the United States.
